Trevor Yeung

Trevor Yeung (b.1988) was born in Guangdong Province in China and currently lives and works in Hong Kong. Combining personal experiences with discerning observations about society, Yeung has produced a wide range of works from photography to large-scale installation pieces. His recent work in mixed media uses plants, shells, and other objects as aesthetic elements while exploring both the effects of closed systems and social norms on our behavior and emotions, and the power dynamics existing between all living things. Yeung’s work is characterized by its delicate expressions that incorporate humor and irony, an approach exemplified in pieces utilizing plants and aquatic life forms as metaphors for the subtlety of emotions in human relationships.

Yeung was selected to represent Hong Kong at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024), and has participated in numerous international exhibitions including the 24th Sydney Biennale (2024) the Lahore Biennale (2024), the Singapore Biennale (2022), and the Lyon Biennale (2019). Recent major solo exhibitions include Soft ground, Gasworks, London (2024), Silent Floaters, Jan Mot, Brussels (2023), and a friendly distance, Blank Canvas, Penang (2023). Major group exhibitions include Rhizome – Network Without Center Point, Kunsthal Aarhus, Aarhus (2024), Myth Makers – Spectrosynthesis, Tai Kwun Contemporary, Hong Kong (2022), and Des corps, des écritures, Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, Paris (2022).
